5 Tips For Managing Coarse Hair

by Raul Davis

Coarse hair can be very difficult to work with sometimes. It gets drier than normal hair types and can look very damaged. However, if you use the right products and treat your locks with care, you can make your hair softer and healthier. Here are five helpful tips for managing coarse hair:

Do not Wash Your Hair Too Much

Washing any hair type too much is not good, but it is especially harmful for coarse hair. Shampooing your hair too often will just dry it out even more. Try not to wash your hair more than three times a week. Coarse hair does not produce many oils, so you do not have to worry about it getting too greasy. However, if your hair does start to look a little oily, just apply dry shampoo to the roots.

Find the Right Hair Stylist

Thick, coarse hair can be difficult to cut, so it is important to find a hair stylist who has experience cutting this hair type. If your hair stylist cuts your hair the right way, it will be a lot more manageable.

Apply a Hydrating Mask Once a Week

Because coarse hair does not have many natural oils, it is a good idea to apply a hydrating hair mask once a week. One of these masks will help put some of the moisture back in your hair, helping it look hydrated and healthy. Leave the mask on your hair for at least 30 minutes before rinsing it off. Once you wash the mask off, your hair will be softer and a lot easier to comb.

Do not Use a Brush

If you have coarse hair, it is not a good idea to use a brush because it can make your tresses frizzy. If your hair is tangled, just use a wide-tooth comb or your fingers to separate it.

Use Blow-dryers Sparingly

Blow-dryers are also something you should stay away from as much as possible. The heat from the blow-dryer can dry out your coarse hair even more. It is better to let your tresses dry naturally. However, if you are in a hurry and must use a blow-dryer, at least use one with a diffuser and do not set the heat too high.

Taking care of coarse hair does not have to be a chore. If you follow these helpful tips, you can manage your tresses a lot easier.
